Mornington Peninsula

Mornington Peninsula

During my three days in the peninsula this month various producers told me it is cooler there than in Melbourne by a couple of degrees, or by up to five or six degrees.  It certainly had a cool feel to it – I wore a jacket most mornings and evenings.

The altitude up on top of the main ridge running east-west across the bottom half of the peninsula is up to 300m, so a couple of degrees would make sense due to the adiabatic lapse rate.

I thought I’d run a one day, summer temperature, unscientific observation on my mid-afternoon return to Melbourne from the peninsula.  Here’s what the car’s external thermometer showed:

Interesting, I thought.
